Meon Junior School Superstars Recycling Award

Meon Junior School Superstars Recycling Award

On Friday 6th March, Meon Junior School was awarded the Overall Winner of Portsmouth City Council’s Recycling Competition 2019. This was in recognition of the many initiatives put in place by our school Eco Council. This is a wonderful achievement as our Eco Council is quite a new group. Miss Brown from the school office took two of the Year 6 Eco Warriors, Casey and Maggie, by bus to the Lord Mayor’s parlour in the Guildhall, Portsmouth.

The Lord Mayor, the Lady Mayoress and Environmental and Climate Change Cabinet Member Councillor Dave Ashmore presented the children with the award.

Afterwards they had tea and biscuits with the other winners and chatted. The Lord Mayor was so impressed with our children that he took them back into his office and gave them both special Portsmouth pin badges. The children both asked very interesting questions and on the way out they stopped to view the cabinets full of silverware, the keys to the city and a solid silver model of the HMS Victory.
