Art is taught in class groups. We place a high value on the development of pupil’s artistic skills. Art is planned so that children have the opportunity to experience working with a variety of media, developing the skills associated with these media (clay, paint, printing inks and cloth), whilst also making progress with observational and compositional skills. Art is always linked to the topic that the children are studying which gives them opportunities to be creative, to respond to experiences and express themselves confidently.
Skills are built upon as the children progress through the school ensuring continuity and progression throughout the key stage.
We also encourage to respond to and appreciate the work of others, including famous artists.
Every child has their own art journal. The journals are used to explore ideas and practice new skills. Completed journals show exploratory work as well as photos, reference notes and collage, printing and textile examples.
