Music

Pupils at Meon enjoy weekly whole school singing, to cover a range of songs, styles and themes. Music in our school encourages pupils to be careful listeners, creative composers and confident performer. Within the class music lessons, children will experience music from different times and cultures. They are taught about the different ways music can be structured, how to recognise and use different instruments and develop an awareness of how music can create a mood or an emotional response. Performances within different groupings are encouraged such as: solo, small instrumental groupings, class groups and year groups.

As well as using tuned and untuned instruments, the pupils in year 4 take part in the Ready for Music scheme which lasts for a year. During this time, the children are taught to play a musical instrument (ukulele) by a peripatetic teacher. Each year group also has a music workshop with a specialist teacher, as well as a music festival.

At Meon, we also provide a variety of after school specialist teaching of musical instruments such as violin and guitar.
