Homework

The page below contain information on how homework is set for pupils in lower school (Year 3-4) and upper school (Year5-6).

Project work is also set for each yeargroup on a half-termly basis,.  Details of this can be found in the Curriculum Maps  for each yeargroup for Autumn ( Aut1 and Aut 2) Spring ( Spr 1 and Spr 2) and Summer ( Sum 1 and Sum) and will be posted as each half term progresses. Go to Curriculum/Curriculum Maps Autumn/Spring/Summer.

Homework is also set on a weekly basis and put into their homework books to be brought home to be completed and returned. Children are encouraged to be responsible for completing their homework on time and returning their homework book to school. This is to create independence, a vital skill that will serve them well during their time at school and beyond.

Year 3

Every week, homework will be given out each Friday and this will need to be completed and returned by the following Tuesday.. This will usually consist of Maths skills and spelling practice as this will allow the children to develop, and secure, their basic skills. A list of  spelling words will be given out at the start of each term. Children are also encouraged to read for at least 15 minutes on a daily basis.

Year 4

Each week,on a Friday , homework will be sent home with the children and it will need to be completed and returned on the following Wednesday. We would be very grateful if the children could learn their spellings over the weekend. Children are also encouraged to read for at least 15 minutes on a daily basis, as this will really make a difference to the amount of vocabulary they are exposed to.

Year 5

Homework will be sent out on Fridays; it will always consist of spelling and maths and may sometimes involve other tasks linked to our project. Homework is due back the following Wednesday. Reading for at least 20 minutes each day is very encouraged.

Year 6

Every week,  homework will continue to come home in either homework or SATs books and is due back the following Tuesday. Once their SATs books are issued, children will do their work from these books. Reading for at least 20 minutes each day is also strongly encouraged.

There are many benefits of reading including learning new words, stimulating the mind and developing knowledge.  Each year group within our school integrates reading into every subject and all reading should be recorded in the Reading…
